Group

I am always looking for motivated students and postdocs interested in geochronology and isotope geochemistry. Projects are available at MSc, PhD and postdoctoral level; please email me (davies.joshua@uqam.ca) with a CV and a short note on your interests. Students can apply for scholarships from NSERC (Canadian citizens and permanent residents) and FRQNT, and I can help with applications. Our group is part of Geotop and works closely with McGill University.

Postdoctoral researchers and research associates

  • Dr. Andrea Boscaini (2023–2026) – Andrea completed his PhD at the University of Padua on the geochronology and geodynamic implications of Permian Variscan volcanism and magmatic activity in the Italian Alps. He is now working on the Wrangellia LIP and its association with the Carnian Pluvial Episode, and on the chronology and correlation of volcanic deposits in the Ediacaran Nama Group, Namibia.

  • Dr. Bruna Saar (2026–2027) – Bruna completed two PhDs, then worked at UQAM as a postdoctoral researcher on wine geochemistry and Hg isotope analysis before joining my group. With me, she is working on the Hf isotopic compositions of terranes in the northern Superior Craton in Québec.

  • Dr. Marie Keiffer (2026–2027, UQAC) – co-supervised with Sarah Dare (UQAC). Marie is working on the timing of mineralization associated with anorthosite massifs in Québec.

  • Héloïse Pinon (2022–, UQAM) – Stratigraphic correlations in the St. Lawrence Platform using apatite chemistry and zircon U-Pb dating.

  • Thomas Blanchet-Gavouyère (2023–, UQAM) – Understanding Pb loss in baddeleyite.

  • Miguel St-Denis (2026–, UQAM) – Exploring volatile element cycling in the Archean using apatite inclusions in zircon.

  • Jean-Michel Gastonguy (2026–, UQAM) – Dating the Charlevoix impact event and understanding its impact on the Earth system.

  • Mariane Zanetti Polito (2026–, Universidade de São Paulo) – Understanding the influence of the Paraná Magmatic Province on the Cretaceous climate. Co-supervised with Brenda Chung da Rocha.

  • Adrien Machuca (2025–, McGill) – The tectono-sedimentary evolution of the Neoproterozoic basins of southern Africa. Co-supervised with Galen Halverson.

  • Ava Whitehead (2024–, McGill) – Multi-scale characterization of thrombolites of the Late Ediacaran Nama Group, Namibia, and their implications for biosignature analysis. Co-supervised with Galen Halverson.

  • Claire Musajo (2023–, McGill) – Expression of Ordovician environmental changes on the Saint-Lawrence Platform, Montréal, Québec. Co-supervised with Galen Halverson.

  • Ajani Bissick (2023–, McGill) – Cyclicity and paleoenvironmental dynamics in the Neoproterozoic: a multi-scale study of the Huns carbonate platform. Co-supervised with Galen Halverson.
